November Campfire Chat

Sharing campfire conversations on the first Sunday of the month:
a little bit of real life, a few links from around the internet, and some meandering thoughts
as if we really were huddled together around the fire.
November favorites.   Early season snowfalls! Curling up under my heated blanket. Homemade vanilla-scented candles. Our little town’s main street, all dressed up. Making too many lattes. Daydreaming of the ski slopes. Lots and lots of chocolate. An extra hour of sleep!

You can create a beautiful, functional, fully customized site for less than $5 per month with no coding knowledge - stop worrying and just hit publish!

How to Start a Blog!   Writing a blog sounded so simple at first: I’d just type words and hit publish and everything’s done, right? Right! Hosting, plugins, advertising, analytics, and so much more took me YEARS to completely figure out. (Honestly, since the internet likes to change things up pretty often, this is one of those lifelong-learning gigs.)

((And here’s another truth: that silly bat-eared puppy doesn’t do a damn thing to help.))

Step-by-Step Guide to Starting a Blog

So I’ve made a complete step-by-step guide for creating your own site! You can truly put together your own beautiful, completely customized site for less than the price of a latte, so don’t get sucked into thinking blogging has to be expensive. From the very basics of installing WordPress to extras like custom emails, security, and playing nice with Google, I hope this gives a few of you the nudge to get started. Please leave a link to your new site, I’d love to check it out.

Cookbooks.   I’m already certain this is going to become a monthly feature! I ended up carrying a huge stack of 12 cookbooks home last week because I simply couldn’t make myself choose. Here’s a few of my favorites:

The Homemade Kitchen was an impulse grab that turned out to be one of my favorites this month! Alana writes Eating from the Ground Up and her voice is so refreshing & honest & funny. Looking forward to her new book in February!

After a year of rave reviews for My Two Souths, I finally cracked it open to find out why for myself. I know ‘fusion’ gets thrown around a lot regarding food, but this is exactly how I love it: comforting, homey, and completely craveable.

I’m just so in love with the dreamy artwork in Forest Feast Gatherings. Basically a gorgeous watercolor guide to hosting happy, nutritious, soul-warming vegetarian dinner parties (and brunch!).

All-in-one guide for hosting a Friendsgiving feast: perfectly roasted chicken, garlic parmesan mashed potatoes, maple balsamic roasted veggies, & bourbon pumpkin pie!

It’s Friendsgiving season! Friendsgiving is the perfect way to start the end-of-year holiday extravaganza! No stress, no drama, no gifts, just getting together with friends to enjoy lots of good food & wine. This whole week on the blog will be filled Friendsgiving recipes, including a complete grocery list & cooking instructions on Friday just like Oktoberfest – so go ahead and put it on the schedule with your friends now!

Can’t wait to share all this holiday food with you. Stay warm! xx
